Ditch the Crowds: Why a Yoga Retreat in Northern Bali is the Ultimate Soul Reset
You've all doom-scrolled through the typical Instagram reels of Bali; sunshine, palm trees, bikinis, and meditation sessions. But if you’ve ever actually been to the southern hotspots expecting total tranquility, you'd be in for a rude shock. Think bumper-to-bumper scooter traffic, crowded beach clubs, and watching peole waiting in a literal queue just to take a photo at a scenic swing. I went on one of those holidays, and it was STRESSFUL. I was not expecting to feel so overwhelmed in paradise.
Don’t get me wrong, Bali holidays in Denpasar have their upsides for sure! Everything is close, there's a hive of activity and heaps to do. But Ubud and the associated retreats that are held there have become a very commercialised 'wellness hub' where the sell of spirituality is more important than the spirituality itself. It doesn't feel authentic, and change doesn't come from an inauthentic experience. Then you've go Kuta. IT IS BUSY. Lots of traffic, noise, people and influencers fighting for the perfect photo. Not the place you want to be for a deep dive into yourself, your practise and relaxation.
If your soul is crying out for actual peace, then Northern Bali is it.
Practicing yoga Poinciana Resort with K-Lea isn't just a class on a schedule, it’s an entire sensory experience. After I attended my first yoga retreat with K-Lea in Feb 2024, it completely changed me. I learnt more about myself and my practise in that week than I had learned about me, and yoga EVER. Yes, there were tears, but there were also breakthroughs. An opportunity to self-reflect and learn that I hadn't had ever in my life. It was big.
Poinciana Resort is the absolute antithesis of your typical Ubud / Kuta Bali trip, offering a genuine slow-pace where you can truly unplug, step onto the mat, and SLOW DOWN. There is no pressure to rush through a packed itinerary. It is just you, the ocean, and traditional village life. You know that whole slow pace thing that you have been hunting for. Yeah. That.
I learnt a few things about yoga retreats in that process too. Air-conditioning is your friend. Especially when you get into the nitty-gritty of your yoga practise and I don't just mean the poses. And no flies are a bonus too. I chose Poinciana because it has TWO amazing yoga spaces. Both indoor AND outdoor shalas. The indoor one with the air-con faces the sea - BLISS. And the outdoor one is perfect for those cool mornings when you want to feel the air on your face.
Imagine how much better you're gonna feel holding a warrior pose while looking out at to the sea, without sweating your tits off.
Also. Two swimming pools. Hallejulah.
You don't have to do ALL the activities if you don't want too. But cool that they are there if you want them. I did about 50% of the activities that were avaialble to me on my first retreat. I just wanted entire days to rest, swim, read, relax, breath. Doing nothing is as valid as wanting to do stuff.
